About the publication
The Guidelines for Water Reuse debuted in 1980 and was updated in 1992 and 2004. EPA contracted with CDM Smith through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement to develop the 2012 edition, with USAID participation.
Workshops and informational sessions began in 2009. The development process brought together more than 300 contributors and reviewers from consulting firms, public agencies, water and wastewater authorities, and academic institutions.
The original website announced the 2012 edition’s release at WEFTEC in September 2012. The complete publication is now also available from EPA’s official document page.
